Totem Floor Lamp - Chalk
Our most ambitious design yet, the Totem is the embodiment of the Palefire ethos to blur the historically distinct lines between domestic design and ‘fine art’. A hybrid art piece and uplighter floor lamp that looks to the ideas of Brancusi, in particular his play with the role of the base and how it incorporates into the rest of the sculpture. The Totem, which also took inspiration from Italian mid-century glass lamps, experiments with the effect of stacking and repeated shapes to make a dramatic, architectural column-like form.
Originally launched in October 2023, the 8 Holland Street x Palefire collection is now available to purchase directly through Palefire Studio. Comprising of 4 new colourways across our existing silhouettes, the colour palette is partly borrowed from Italian architect and industrial designer, Vico Magistretti. The Chalk white, inspired by sleek Italian interiors, offers a calming companion to any space. The Totem is also available in Palm and Azure.
The moulded paper-pulp shade and base is hand-painted in a choice of three plain finishes. Paper pulp is a natural material with its own idiosyncrasies and imperfections. The highly tactile surface created by the pulp is an eco-friendly equivalent to ceramic or plaster. The choice of an organic material adds character and texture to your interior.
